We are currently looking for
an Engine Calibration Engineer - Vehicle Drivability to support one of our prestigious projects in Bologna.
Role Overview:
The candidate will be part of the Engine Management team, responsible for engine calibration and optimization with a particular focus on vehicle drivability, both on the bench and on the road. The role involves collaborating with the development team and ECU suppliers to define and fine-tune specific engine control functions. The candidate will be responsible for managing, analyzing, and optimizing various aspects of engine performance, applying advanced calibration and simulation tools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pedal map definition and calibration of drivability filters to optimize the interaction between the engine and vehicle behavior.
- Engine braking control 0, aiming to improve stability and response during deceleration.
- Fine-tuning of idle control, launch strategies, and torque reserve management to ensure optimal performance in various driving conditions.
- Fuel transient compensation to improve engine response during rapid acceleration and deceleration.
- Fine-tuning of the rev limiter to optimize performance without compromising engine safety.
- Torque control, focusing on following the driver’s torque requests and/or those made by other CAN network nodes.
- Evaluation and calibration of advanced features such as cruise control, traction control, quick shift, engine brake control, and wheely control.
- Manage and conduct performance tests on dynamic and stationary test benches, with detailed analysis of results.
- Use of automation and calibration optimization tools through MATLAB.
- Post-processing calibration data and creating graphical representations to analyze performance.
- Writing test reports to monitor progress and optimizations made during testing sessions.
- Collaboration with EMS suppliers to solve any issues related to engine control software and with the calibration manager to implement the developed packages.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering with excellent academic performance.
- At least 3 years of experience in engine calibration, with a focus on drivability for gasoline engines.
- A3 driver’s license and a good motorcycling experience.
- Proficient in English.
- Experience with calibration software such as ETAS INCA and MATLAB for tool generation.
- Experience in data modeling and post-processing results (using MATLAB and AVL Concerto).
- Knowledge of ETAS calibration systems and configuring related tools.
- Understanding of automotive electronics components and the ability to comprehend the interactions of calibrations on individual components.
- Strong problem-solving skills, quick decision-making, and result-oriented.
- Willingness to travel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Synerject, Continental, and Vitesco engine control systems.
- Someone from the Talent Acquisition department will contact you to schedule an initial HR interview.
- If successful, a second interview will be conducted to validate your technical knowledge.
- In case of a positive outcome from the technical interview, there will be a last qualification meeting with the Client.
